Meet Gauri

Artist and Teacher

My name is Gauri, and I am the artist behind Prettyful Creations. I am a seasoned artist who specializes in wood burning! What separates me from other artists and pyrographers is my roots in Indian culture. My specialty lies in bringing henna and mandala designs and patterns to everyday objects.

Did you know that henna paste is derived from a plant leaf and that an authentic mandala represents the universe in Hindu and Buddhist cultures? With my art, I hope to raise awareness of these facts.

I am at my best when answering questions. So, if you have any inquiries about culture, pyrography, or my art, just ask away. I am happy to provide answers to the best of my knowledge.

Your home should reflect your personal style. Each corner of your life should be eye-catching and unique, just like you.

Prettyful Creations is where savvy shoppers of all interior styles discover an ever-changing and evolving selection of custom handmade home decor. My selection is unique, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Custom projects are always welcome.

How Prettyful Creations Came to Be...

Driven by ambition, I decided to bring all my creative desires under one roof, establishing a brand in Prettyful Creations. It serves as a platform to express myself, showcase my craftmanship, and offer unique creations that reflect my artistic journey.

My journey as an artist began with an introduction to Pinterest. A peek into this platform made me want to expand my artistry beyond decorating my home. I started with candle-making classes with friends and explored other possibilities like Plaster of Paris molds. One aspect remained consistent in all my efforts: my attraction to henna and mandala designs and my incorporation of them anywhere I could. These designs are a natural extension of my creativity.

About 5 years ago, my daughters’ artwork inspired me to pick up a wood-burning tool, opening a world of wonders. It was also one of her childhood playful utterances of calling a flower “prettyful” that became the name for my studio.  I found my soul mate canvas and brush in wood burning. Since 2015, I have participated in numerous craft fairs, taught workshops at Goodman Community Center, held private workshops, and most recently been the pyrography instructor at The Bodgery. I love sharing my passion while teaching others how to make their own gifts and home decor. It is heartwarming to watch an individual create their masterpiece and be proud of it. Every “aha” moment from my students brings me joy and makes classes and workshops worthwhile.

I have since grown from having a small Etsy presence to my own website. I have been featured in Madison Magazine, participated in numerous art/craft shows, and have displayed my functional art in local gift stores, including ones on Madison’s historic State Street. Recepient of honorable mention at Wisconsin Women Network annual Artful Women exhibit at UW Childrens Hospital. I have the honor of being one of the featured artists in four Woodburn books by Rachel Strauss. I am a long-standing pyrography community member with a unique niche in creating mandala patterns. In addition to private workshops, I am also a current MSCR adult art enrichment staff.
